Yep, can`t stand it..Henman Hill? wtf is that all about?

I wait til he gets to the quarter finals then have a bet on whoever he`s playing...works everytime...

Tiger Tim?...LMFAO
Doesn't help that he's not even remotely good looking either.
Don't be such an old grouch - they're just enjoying themselves; it's always fun to have someone to cheer on. He's never going to win anything (in fact I don't think he ever did win a big title) but he was pretty good in his day... which is now past. No need to sneer at him, though, there are still worse players - including the number 25 seed, it turns out.
I see your point jno, but Henman has never really hit it off with sports fans in general, there`s something about him that only tennis fans like, people like Ronnie O`Sullivan, Jimmy White,Phil Taylor etc are more popular
yeah, but you don't get a day in the sun ['sun', who am I kidding] cheering on Jimmy White while eating strawberries, it's not the same.
jno...no reply to that, game set and match to you
Oh dear - really didn't expect this from you Stokeace.

So people are proud of being British and are supporting one of the few British people who at least has a sporting chance.

Yes, in all likelihood he will fail, but one of the factors that can help him succeed is the British crowd getting behind him.

Personally, I would love to see a British person win pretty much any sporting event - and therefore cheer them on.
He is soooooooooooo boring, that one fisted salute when he wins a point is pathetic. He is a little fairy who has flattered to deceive for over a decade.
Tiger Tim? What's all that about?

I thought Tigers went for the kill and were natural predators.

More like slightly annoyed kitten.
He is a little fairy who has flattered to deceive for over a decade.

He is currently the 74th best player in the world. In the last 10 years he was up to number 4 in the world.

He is the first British player to have got into the semi-finals since the 1970s.

Wow - that was a good deception......
Okay, so some might think he's a bit boring and lacking in the charm department, but he's a good player and dedicated, so I for one hope he has a good Wimbledon!
The problem with this country when it comes to tennis, is that it is never really top of the list at schools. I know in the USA and even in Spain, they have tennis schools and the focus is on winning, winning, winning!
Although I think Henman is a total dullard to watch, he has done incredibly well considering the lack of tennis inclination in this country.
with Henman faltering and Murray out, it's just going to have to be Lewis Hamilton, vic... shame formula 1 is the world's most boring spectator 'sport', even worse than darts.
JNO - Im with you on Formula 1 I just don't get it lol and Superbikes lol
I used to fancy Tim Henman when I was about 10, I have a special affinity for him even now! That is why I never tire of seeing the Briton at Wimbledon.
Yes. I find it irritating and annoying and boring.

But....

I'm also not a big fan of the tennis and I do think that those who are should show support for whoever they chose in whatever they chose (well, within legal limits).

It's no worse than my dad thinking this'll be the year spurs win something every season!

oneye i love to se the brits do well in any sport mate but 'tiger tim' is becoming a bit of a flop and is nearly in the same vein as eddie the eagle edwards.by the end of the week all british interest in wimbledon will have gone im afraid...................................again.
Tim Henman is the perfect embodiment of the state of tennis nowadays.

He's dull, but then, he's surrounded by a load of other faceless, dull players.

Bring back the days when they swore, spat and had running feuds.
His best career win (2003 Paris Masters) barely registered with the public since there was no 'living through the moment' on TV. Wimbledon is after all a television event.

I also think the nature of tennis scoring sometimes lends itself to great tension which defies the actual significance of the result.

Henman and Murray haven't had the same mainsteam support as Jimmy White and Phil Taylor because tennis is a middle class athletic sport whereas darts, and snooker are working class pub games.

Lewis Hamilton - we don't hate you - just F1 in general.
oh lord no, sp1814, do NOT bring back the days of McEnroe hurling abuse at line judges. If you want to see overpaid, arrogant 'sportsmen' bullying officials, what else is the premiership for?
