Yes, we don't know why katieseaton is asking, but on the wider subjects on whether paedophiles should be 'named and shamed' I say 'No way'. To protect kids, you tell them that all strangers should be treated with caution.
If you knew that there were three padeophiles living in your local area, would you say to your kids "Avoid blokes A, B and C, but if anyone else offers your sweets, that's okay?"
By the way, if we were ever to name and shame paedos, why not, using the same logic, expose former rapists, wife beaters and those convicted of racist and homophobic attacks?
You'd want your family (adult and child) protected from these people too, wouldn't you?

Not at present as it there was the News of the World would have already made the details public as they have been agitating for offenders to be named and shamed. They have not been successful for the reasons mentioned by other posters.
Those who have been convicted of an offence (may include caution's as well, not sure), and who are registered, will be on the register which is held and accessible only to the police/ home office. This will not include those, I believe who have committed offences that pre date the sex offenders register.
Those who have/are committing sexual offences but not caught/convicted are not on any list, apart from maybe a list complied and kept by the offenders themselves as some offenders are very good at networking. this may well be on the Internet but , to access this you would need a expertise that either comes about working for Vice or being an offender.
Sorry that answer is not totally comphrensive, for accuarcy I would check with the police or someone who works in this area.

stranger danger awareness is important, but statistically a child is more likely to be abused by someone well known to a child such as a relative - similarly you are more likely to be killed by nearest and dearest than a stranger. Also others to be concerned about are trusted known adults such as teachers, social workers, priests imams. Although children are sometimes snatched from home of of the street most offenders want to be able to access their victim/s for longer and therefore need to be able to gain access and then ensure the child is too frightened to disclose, the fear factor is easier if the child is known to you and you are probably already in a position of power/authority by your relationship to the child.
One eminent researcher/ therapist in this area said your average offender could be categorized as married with children, owning car and having a job. - narrows the field down!!! However, although many people are sexually abused as children, fortunately not the majority.

by the way, in one of the towns where I work the vigilantes torched the house of a sex offender, (nice for his parents and his teenage sibs, the offender was 14). Two of the vigilantes baying for blood were two offenders. These friends had between them offended against over 20 children. Nice cover pretending to be anti offenders.

Surely you should do all you can to protect them whether of not there is a kiddie fiddler in the next street or not.

You ask for a list of sex offenders, but of course this is sex offenders the police etc KNOW about.
What about the sex offenders that NOBODY knows about.
Take Harold Shipman as an example. He was a GP, a respected member of society, and most people would be more than happy to live next door to him.
It then turns out he a has murdered (or at least shortened the life of) over 200 people.
So for all you know there may be sex offenders living in houses in your street, maybe next door to you, but you just dont know if they are, because they have never been caught.

i asked the question because i belive i no someone who has been inside for kiddy fidderling but i am not 100% sure if it is ture.
i just wanted to find out if it was true as some things he dose now i would of thought he is not aloud if he has been convicted.
if the information was published on the net i would not use it as revenge i would not go down to there level but i can see how other people would.!
