I watched this on channel four last night and was really touched by this guy, Steve Daly, who was not the usual whingey, feeling sorry for himself, "I've tried every diet under the sun and they don't work for me" obese person that is normally portrayed on TV.

He recognised he needed to do something about his weight and I would love to know how he is getting on, I have tried googling but can't find anything. Can anyone help? Did anyone else see this prog? What did you think?

Hi natalie, I watched it too and like you I was really touched by this guy.
Like you said, he didn't whinge on and on about it not being his fault. He openly accepted that it was his fault and his alone.
I thought he made a very good point at the swimming pool, about how most of the food sold in the cafe is junk food.

I would also love to know how he is doing!
I have just E- mailed channel 4 to see if they have any info.
I'll let you know if I hear anything!
He's currently eating lard with a ladle....

Thanks cameo, glad I'm not the only one who felt like that!

I agree about the swimming pool thing - stupid thing is I was a regular swimmer as a child, and still am, but that point never ocurred to me at all! Seems so daft and so bleeding obvious too.
What swimming pool thing??
natalie, had an E-mail back from channel4 who basically said that as they don't make the programme themselves they did not have any detailed information available. However they did give me an address for the production company that made the programme. B ut seeing as that means putting actual pen to paper I might wait and see if I can find out another way.

I never thought I would become so use to computers for all my information!!!!

He stated that you burn 300 calories by swimming, but then the Cafe at the swimming pool only sells junk food,so you put the calories back on.
My teenage daughter watched the programme and is now determined to lay off the junk food.
He was such a lovely man and you generally felt sorry for him.At least he is trying to tackle the issue and make people aware how easy it is to let the weight slowly creep on till it's beyond a joke.

What's the address cameo? I might write to them myself. I like writing letters. I'm a saddo, I look forward to getting post to see if anyone has written back!
The address is as follows:
SILVER RIVER PRODUCTIONS LTD
Brook House
2-16 Torrington Place
London
WC1E 7HN

Let me know if you find out anything!!
I was also really touched by Steve Daly's programme. I was visiting from Canada when I saw it and even before it came on, I had been noticing quite a few really large people roaming around. I hope that this programme serves as a wake-up call for those people. It sure served as a wake-up call for me! Although I'm not 30 stone, I'm a lot heavier than I need to be and I know if I don't do something soon, I will end up like this! It's pretty embarrassing that North America has a reputation for fatties, don't become like us!

I would really love to get a hold of Steve Daly, to offer encouragement and to find out how he's progressing. I noted down the address for Silver River Productions but did a quick search and found they had a website. I emailed them and will let you know if they respond with any useful information.
