Can anybody give me the title of a film made in the late forties or 1950's about a WWII American aircrew whose plane has crashed in the desert. The film is the story of how they try to cope with their bad situation and at the end of the film it transpires that they are all ghosts and that they died in the aircrash.

I don't know about a film, but I did see an episode of The Twilight zone which I'm sure had that exact storyline. Maybe a film was based on it?
Why "forties" (which is correct) but 1950's? Why the sudden need for an apostrophe? 1950s is all you need.
I remebert his film. They disapper one by one as their bodies are discovered and one of them is left alone for ages as he went off to try and get help or some such. This seems to have generated a LOT of discussion on the net and the hot favourite seems to be Sole Survivor ...? ? http://www.guardian.co.uk/notesandqueries/query/0,

Spellmaster, I apologise for my erroneous use of an apostrophe in 1950s. I believe this is now known as a "grocer's apostrophe" (did you see how I slipped one into grocers)? I believe that it has entered the new Oxford English Dictionary as such. I understand that it got its name from greengrocers hand written signs an example of which is "Banana's 95p Ib".
