Not necessarily - dvd is an acronym for 'digital versatile disk'

So it records in a digital format.

A digital tuner is different - usually 'built in freeview' is stated on the box or the bumf.

but does built in freeview mean that you get freeview channels with it because i dont want tht when aleady have a freeview ready tv.

It means you can record freeview channels with your set top box or freeview tv switched off.
