Commercials are blatant advertisements that you may see in the breaks of programs. Infomercials are themselves scheduled programs, using lasting up to half an hour, that look like documentaries or lifestyle programs but are all selling items. If you have Sky the channels around 640 have alot of US infomercials (for example Chuck Norris and his Total Gym 2000.) Combining Information and Commercial made this word.
