I need to add some films to my Amazon rental list! I want to see some of those life-changing films that you have to see before you die! Preferably comedy, but doesn't have to be!

What do you advise?

Good films and very funny: Everybody Loves You, Zoolander, The Life of Brian, Meet the Parents, Something About Mary... also Dodgeball ...
and (not a comedy) but just a good film I can watch over and over many times - Meet Joe Black.
Depends on your sense of humour, but the following are a MUST:

Virtually any of the Marx Brothers' films, but would particularly recommend A Night at the Opera;

Some Like it Hot

The Producers (Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder)
Blazing Saddles

And, for British humour:

Kind Hearts and Coronets
The Ladykillers (the Alaistair Sim version, not the remake)
The Belles of St Trinian's (don't bother about any of the other St Trinian's films, they're not nearly so good)
I'm all right, Jack (biting satire, and Peter Sellers at his best, not to mention the other all-star comedy cast)
(Another Peter Sellers film I would highly recommend is a little-known gem called The Naked Truth, about a gang of celebs who set out to nobble the publisher of a scandal mag - highly topical today, though it was made over 50 years ago!)

That should keep you going until Christmas!
The Big Lebowski - brilliant !

Armageddon ? Cut away all the space stuff and the film is basically about drilling holes !!!! not a 'must see' imho
not a comedy but a must see film has to be
ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA.
great performances from deniro and woods and the music is brilliant and sets the tone perfectly
Reinganum, I love your list and concur with it entirely. I LOVE Kind Hearts and Coronets ("I shot an arrow in the air. She fell to earth in Barclay Square.")

My Marx Brothers recommendation is Duck Soup. My favorite Peter Sellers comedy is A Shot in the Dark.

Keeping to comedies, I'd add The Princess Bride and Tim Burton's Big Fish. Also, The Wrong Box, an absolutely hilarious romp with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Michael Caine with a hilarious turn by Peter Sellers as a doctor of doubtful repute with an apartment full of cats.

All these films filled me to the brim with the unbridled joy of life.
How about "As Good As It Get's", a comedy / drama with Jack Nicholson.
How about "This is Spinal Tap"!!!!!
