why the term "character actor" - dont all actors play characters anyway? and also what exactly is method acting?

A character actor is someone good at filling out the supporting roles, but not someone who would usually be considered for a lead role.

Method acting = phrase derived from two famous acting tutors, Strasberg and Stanislavski. It has to do with trying to invest the actors real life emotions into the character I think.
A character actor is an actor who plays the same character type in every production.
