It wasn't D-Day. Although Alfie and Nana Moon went to Dunkirk for the D-Day anniversary celebrations, I seem to remember WIlliam was killed on the beaches in the battle that resulted in the 'little ships' evacuation. That was before D-Day, but I can't remember the date.
