It's not really a lot considering much much use they're going to get out of them. And what's wrong with the current idents? Er... they're crap?
Question Author
Why do you need them? Why can't a continuity announcer tell you what's on next? I understand that newsreaders, etc. cannot say more than ONE sentence at a time before His/Her colleague says the next line, but surely it doesn't take a genius to say what's on next.
I dunno, have you listened to those on BBC 3?
Question Author
potdog, they ARE crap, probably wear scarves indoors as well.!!
Question Author
Sorry,should be postdog.
Point of accuracy - once we've paid the fees it IS their own money.

I must admit I don't care about the idents - if anything I find them really irritating, especially the blokes in wheelchairs - but while 1.2 milllion is a lot, in terms of programme budgets and the BBC budget overall it actually isn't much. I hate that we live in such an image-conscious world, believe me I'd reverse that if I could, but whatever you think of the BBC they have an image & reputation to maintain and the overall look of the channels would seem comparatively lame if they didn't have flashy idents.

Again, I stress that this situation annoys me, but it's how media work nowadays. Either way, it's hardly an absolute scandal.
What about all of the money that's wasted on daytime TV? I work all day so I don't get to watch it. What's wrong with 'Pages from Ceefax' or the testcard?
TV isn't just for people with day jobs.
Question Author
Backdrifter, sorry to disagree, but it is NEVER their money.
But we've paid it. So it's not ours anymore. It'd be like buying something in a shop, then going back a week later and saying "where's my money"
Question Author
Backdrifter,I suppose scandal was perhaps a bit strong. I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree about the money matter. Thanks for you interest, though.
