Can anyone tell me just how does starbursting work? And why exactly is moya doing when she goes all electric blue

My theory is that it works like hyperbrive.Moya has to generate energy,creating a forcefield around her (which is when she goes blue) and allowing her to open a portal to hyperspace through which she travels instantaneously from point of origin to destination.
