Reading an article about a book signing where few people showed up got me thinking about an episode of something or other, or indeed a scene in a film, where there was a man who was doing a book signing or reading and the only person to show up was either his mother or father. There was obviously more to it than that, but that is all I can remember about it! Any ideas?

hi the only thing i can remember similar is an episode of As Time Goes By but i think you would remember that as he has to dress up with a pith helmet etc as it's about his time in Kenya?

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think it was that. As you say, I'd have thought I'd remember that he was dressed up.
A bit OT, but I used to manage a bookshop and once had to give someone some money to buy a book from an author when no-one turned up to the signing...
Our local shopping centrre had two signings on the same day a few years ago - in WH Smith's on the second floor, Freddie Truman was signing, or rather not signing copies of his autobiography, while on the lower ground floor, Terry Pratchett was signing his latest Discworld novel, and the queue numbered hundreds!
