definately amelie, but there is another strange film by jean pierre jeunet called delicatessen which i think is quirky but likeable :-)
well i liked the French Lieutenants Woman and the French Connection but to be honest, Moulin Rouge and Nicole Kidman does it for me
seriously, that one about the chocolate shop, I think it's just called chocolate
La Haine with Vincent Cassel

Manon Des Sources

Jean de Florette

and nikita

Anyone heard of Jacques Tati? He made some classic films. "Monsieur Hulot's Holiday" , "Mon Oncle", "Jour de Fete" and they were very funny.
Un Chien Andalou

Is coffeeman french by any chance?

my favourite film was Asterix

Borsalino, Jean -Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon, wonderful film.I still have the LP soundtrack too, it must be 30 odd years since I played it too

Emmanuelle
Anyone seen La Balance? A french film made by American Bob Swaim in the 80's. Hard hitting, bit like The French Connectio. Awsome. Also Switchblade Romance, really top horror.
Don't know if Leon counts - it was directed by Luc (?) Besson who directed Nikita, so under that criteria, it makes the list.

la balance was very good yes i forgot that..

un chein andalou ..mmm but why drag a piano huh lol?

i remember Tati too..

Does anyone remember Beatrice Dalle too ?

Les Amants du Pont Neuf is great, and I love Nikita.
Jean de Florette because it has the Stella Artois music in it

Delicatessen, not because it's particularly great (it's okay though) but for the tune that is played throughout. I watched it about 5 years ago and still find myself whistling it.

My favourite film of all time (I've seen it more than 30 times) is Les Enfants du Paradis, Marcel Carn's story of a group of actors in the mid-19th century: simply marvellous. I like several Carn films, Le jour se leve and Le quai des brumes. There are so many great French films: Renoir's La regle du jeu, Bresson's Un condamn mort s'est chapp, Godard's amazing debut, Le bout de souffle, Rappeneau's Cyrano de Bergerac, Tati's comedies, Chabrol's thrillers....just so many.

Oh, Henke, I'm sure Verdi would just *love* the fact that his operas are now regarded as 'Stella Artois music' :-)
Toto the Hero is great. Also 3 colours : red (trilogy red white and blue)

Depending on my mood, either Cyrano de Bergerac or Delicatessen

Leon - if it is french but its still a cracker!!! has anyone seen pink panther!!!! best film this year and Leon (the actor who plays him) is in it and he is brilliant in it!!!!!!!!!
