AGH! Horror Fillums

I am not good at watching horror films, they terrify me, but there is still a part of me that really really wants to watch them.

My husband loves horrors, and doesn't get scared. He admitted once that the Evil Dead Zombie types do scare him the teeniest weeniest itty bitty bit, they make me laugh however as they just look so crappy and false. But ghosty and inbred canibal types scare me, like The Entity and Texas Chainsaw Masacre.

What films/ types scare you most?

As I've got older I do'nt tend to scare as well as I used to,either that or the films they make nowadays are'nt as scary.I'm a huge horror fan,but invariably end up disappointed when I go to the cinema to see a new horror film.Therefore the ones that made a big impact on me tend to be older films;-Texas Chainsaw Massacre,Candyman & Exorcist.Off to see remake of 'The Hills Have Eyes'tonight,fingers crossed that it scares me!!

I wouldn't bother with "The Hills have Eyes" bex. It benefits from fast paced direction but it's still "alone on a lonely highway" formulaic nonescence.

Bex, if you like horrors, look out for The Hostel, due out next month. Directed by Texas Chainsaw director and Tarrantino. The trailer made me want to stand up and leave the cinema!!

Saw quite a few trailers for 'Hostel',when I was in The USA at New Year and I admit it looks well scary but that seems to be the case,the trailers give the film a massive build up but the movie itself is abit of a letdown.I live in hope!!!

i must admit that it takes alot to scare me. I agree that the older films are scarier. I watched Boogeyman one night, I was half asleep and I must admit it was a good film and was very jumpy.

I have Hostel on DVD ( ask no questions tell no lies etc.. ) and it is horific, but mostly for the first part is constant female nudity. So it might not be most womens cup of tea, it is really just torture for tortures sake. But more gruesome than scary.

I can't quite define scared.......I am sure I can't get scared anymore..........some films make me jump but I don't consider that to be a scared reaction. The Grudge made me anxious as I knew something was going to happen is that scared?? x

the grudge was scary because it breaks the golden rule that hiding under your bed sheets is more than adequate protection against ghosts!

The all blood and guts horrors are terrible, theres nothing scary there except if you're squeemish at the sight of blood and guts. It's the films that daon't show which are the best, it's why chainsaw massacre is so good, the same goes for The blair witch, the scene at the end in the house has to be one of the tensest ever. One gore fest that does make a difference is Candyman though. Quality. Saw was quite good. I've watched a lot of horrors though, i did film studies and a piece on banned films, and i've become quite desensitised. I do get aprehensive before hand though, especially at the 70's video nasties, half of which are terrible anyway.

Don't mean to be pedantic but Tobe Hooper, the director of Texas Chainsaw, does not direct Hostel.

Tobe Hooper is an excellant director, he directed the only horror film with a moment in it that actualy scared me, Salems Lot :)
