As a counter to the 'roles they would rather forget' and watching Saturday Night Fever - what other actors showed early brilliance and ended up being square headed talentless barmpots.

2 spring to my mind immediately; British actor Christopher Eccleston: I thought he was brilliant as Derek Bentley in Let him have it. I Loved Shallow Grave but since Our Friends in the north He has become a ham actor egotistical and therefore un-believable.

American Actor Tom Cruise: In all his Teen Movie roles Taps, Risky Business, Cocktail then after Rainman..... (see above) I mean Cole Trickle and that Irish accent?

Christopher Eccleston is from round our way so i should really support him but he is terrible isnt he? Jude was good and OFITN but he really grates to be honest.
Slightly disagree about Tom Cruise - he was great in Magnolia and Born on the 4th of July - everything is pretty stinky. You forgot to mention The Outsiders where every single brat packer appeared and all showed great promise and ultimately went down hill from there.
Joanne Whalley was another great disappointment - early promise , went to hollywood, married Val Kilmer and appeared in every bad film ever made.
Most people under 50 wont remember this but in the mid 1970's Robert Powell played the lead part in the TV mini series "Jesus of Nazareth" he played an absolutely brilliant part, and later portrayed "Hannay" in The 39 steps, but since then his parts seem to have gone downhill and playing the part of Jasper Carrots idiot friend Briggs seems the ultimate step down.
