There are lots of old musical films on over the next few weeks.
These are the ones on Freeview.
Carousel and South Pacific on Monday
Guys and Dolls Wednesday
Meet me in St Louis Xmas day
Singin in the rain Boxing day
My Fair lady, 7 brides for 7 brothers, Calamity Jane, West side story Monday 27th
Lots more recent musicals as well.
There are a few films I'm looking forward to that I haven't seen before like Saving Mr Banks, A star is born (remake) Judy with Renee Zellweger.
Which films can you recommend and are there any you are looking forward to watching?

God , with that prospect for Christmas I am not sure which I am looking forward to most, the films or Covid.

Give me:
Sink the Bismarck
Dambusters
633 Squadron
Cockleshell Heroes
Battle of Britain.

Something to cheer us up.
On the musicals theme, Lin-Manuel Miranda's In The Heights has just dropped on Sky Movies. Watched it yesterday as I'm a big fan of Hamilton, and it's well worth a look.

Naomi, I don't think I've ever watched Mary Poppins or any Bridget Jones films, so I should be ok watching the Tom Hanks film and Judy.
Sqad, you missed out The Cruel Sea,
Which is the Tom Hanks film, Barsel?
Question Author
Sqad, as I would expect from you, very blokey films.
I'm the complete opposite, very girly.
Musicals and romance with hopefully a happy ending.
I do like the music from The Dambusters though.
Question Author
Naomi Saving Mr Banks. Tom hanks and Emma Thompson.
I like to old war films too. Von Ryan's Express, Bridge on the River Kwai ....
I didn't realise he was in it. Barsel. I only suffered it for an hour.
Question Author
I detest war films or any films with violence.
Walked out of Dr Zhivago when it was on at the cinema back in the day.
For those who liked it, it's on BBC @1.50pm on Tuesday 21st.
Rewind on that Barsel. I've just googled and I think I must have been watching Mary Poppins Returns - not Saving Mr Banks. Sorry all. Mary Poppins Returns is rubbish, I've no idea about Saving Mr Banks. With Tom Hanks in it, I would definitely give it a go though. Thanks for enlightening me, Barsel.
I think Dr Zhivago is a great film. I recently read the book.
Have to agree with Naomi. Mary Poppins Returns lacked the magic of the original. I wouldn't call it rubbish as such, but utterly uninspired.
@1334...good spot Danny.
Question Author
That's ok Naomi, I would have given it a go anyway as Tom Hanks makes pretty good films in general.
Question Author
Love the music from Dr Zhivago but not all the blood and guts in the snow.
Sky Arts is chock full of musical goodies over the Christmas period too.

Question Author
Mozz, thanks for posting that.
I can get Sky Arts on Freeview, but didn't check what was on there.
I'm not a great fan of musicals in general (although I've enjoyed some fantastic musicals live on stage, such as Return to The Forbidden Planet and The Rocky Horror Show). However I was hoping that That Day We Sang would be re-shown this Christmas, as it's perfect viewing for this time of year. Alas, it looks like Amazon Prime Video is hanging onto the rights; I certainly can't think of any reason for Aunty Beeb not to give it another outing.
I love Dr Zhivago so much. I have watched it over and over again. I might even have married my husband because of that film ;o) ! My baby was going to be called Larissa (Lara), but it was a boy! I think it's my favourite film of all time.
