Sequels That Are Better Than The Originals

i'm just watching shrek on the TV, followed by shrek 2.
Just realized how far superior in every way shrek 2 is. That doesn't happen often. Can you think of any?

Toy Story 3 was even better.
Toy Story 4 was the best.

3 sequels better than the first.

Godfather 2 is always accepted as a superior sequel. I'd give a nod to Rocky 2 as well.

Star Trek IV better than Star Trek III.
Star Trek VI better than Star Trek V.

It is a well known fact that Odd numbered Star Trek films are bobbins, and the Even numbered ones are good.

I’d also go with Godfather 2. I also think the second instalment of The Terminator was better than the first.

I agree with Sunk on the first three Toy Story films, but not so much the fourth one.

Captain America: The Winter Solider is arguably the best film in the MCU so far, and far superior to the first Cap movie. The same can be said of the third Thor movie.

Although not my favourite, Empire Strikes Back is often rated higher by critics than Star Wars.

Mad Max: Fury Road is the best of that franchise.

I preferred the originality of Godfather and Alien to the followups.

I binge-watched the Toy Story films and what originally seemed to be ground-breaking animation in the first was made to look increasingly clumsy as the sequels became more sophisticated. But the original was really original, for all that. Didn't go much on 2 (evil collector) or 3 (evil teddy) but 4 was very good, a complete U-turn on the other three.

Mozz still PMSL at Fury Road... good one.

Aliens (the second film) was far better than Alien.
But the sequels after that awful.

I agree, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ is better than the first film.

Fury Road just goes round in a circle. Aliens was about technology and weaponry plus a little girl for sentimental appeal. Neither of them had half the originality of the originals, just more money.
