Yes, the Mother at the scene but the father was alive and taken to hospital.

I remember a similar storyline where both adoptive parents die in an accident and the birth mother ends up with the child. Can't remember where from though. Or am I having deja vu?

Yes I think we can all see where this is going..... can someone who gave up a child for adoption really get it back even if the adoptive parents die? Or only in soapland?

I'd be more worried that a complete stranger can walk into a hospital room with a child without anyone challenging her.
