Oh For Funks Sake! “News” headline said Christmas May be cancelled due to virus.

What a silly headline.

big shopping malls, Carol services, work “do’s” etc may be cancelled but Christmas itself as a special day will still be much the same ...

You can't cancel Christmas. For us it's just another day and has been for years. But it's still Christmas. Perhaps its time we realise how materialist and showy it's become and put Christmas in perspective again, especially as for some it will be a lean Christmas financially.

Silly headline, indeed.......but I think everyone will understand what it meant by it.
The news people especially tabloids seem to thrive on bad feelings and doom, ignore it, don't give it a thought!
The press (Beth Rigby and the Telegraph one?) asked whether he was cancelling Christmas at the Covid briefing. I think those looking for soundbites and punchy headlines often insult the intelligence of their readers/viewers.
(And why Boris answered Robert Peston's question about Brexit yesterday at the briefing I don't understand- I'd have just said "we're discussing Covid" and moved onto the next question)
"but I think everyone will understand what it meant by it"

Apart from those who enjoy being horrified for no apparent reason...
Suits me....we ignore it anyway!
I wish the Pantos weren't cancelled. Oh, yes I do!
no santas in shop grottos or did that stop years ago?

When Peston asked Boris if Christmas was cancelled, I so wanted him to say "I am not the Sheriff of Nottingham and YOU are not Robin Hood"

There are usually 7 of us at my house over Christmas. Who do I tell to stay away to keep with the allotted six? :)
Sneezy. :-)
i wouldn't invite grumpy either
7 of us live in this house so does this mean I can't see my other kids over xmas? It's daft. If everyone is home I have a spare person here and can't see people I see on a weekly basis anyway.
My butcher is getting stressed about Christmas. People won't want the huge fresh turkeys he normally sells if they can't have their big family gatherings for Christmas lunch and boxing day. He would normally have placed his orders by now and he's in a quandary. I bet the turkey farmers are equally stressed - frozen turkeys will never fetch the price of fresh ones.
ummm its six extra people from outside your household.
" 2. Seeing friends and family
When seeing friends and family you do not live with you should:

follow social distancing rules
limit how many different people you see socially over a short period of time
meet people outdoors where practical: meeting people outdoors is safer than meeting people indoors because fresh air provides better ventilation
Limits on the number of people you can see socially are changing. From Monday 14 September, when meeting friends and family you do not live with you must not meet in a group of more than 6, indoors or outdoors.

From 14 September - when the new rules apply - it will be against the law to meet people you do not live with in a group larger than 6 (unless you are meeting as a household or support bubble). The police will have the powers to enforce these legal limits, including to issue fines (fixed penalty notice) of £100, doubling for further breaches up to a maximum of £3,200."

Why isn't this coming into effect until Monday - plenty of time for partying this weekend!
The PM hopes “Operation Moonshot” will end the need for restrictions.
More bluster and blind optimism I’m afraid.
Operation Moonshot sounds like another world-beating fiasco
Why not just insist the over 50’s stay indoors until the virus burns itself out? I’d be more than happy with that
Ok. There are strategies dafter than Moonshot I admit.
Tho it’s close
