There have been many ABs on here in the last few weeks/months that feel, and have said, or accused others of getting to hysterical over covid, some have even stated, that this nonsense needs to stop. Yet most of these ABs rigorously support Boris,s actions regarding covid.

The question is really, with Boris,s new enforcements this week, is it not him and his government that are creating hysteria and nonsense.

Regarding Matt Hancock's remark,( Don't kill your granny) my answer to that would be, I will leave that to you, because you made a fine job of that in the past few months.

It's a bit of both. I wouldn't expect to agree fully with the actions of ANY government, and we'll never know whether and others would have been better- but it's easy to say.
People are so different... some have never believed it, some are really scared and all options in between.
Except for people like me (looking after elderly or vulnerable people), others won't be "killing granny". As granny will be shielding if she wants to...
I feel sorriest for younger people and teenagers, where socialising, naturally (and should) be really important... and they have missed out a lot on normal life, where they aren't particularly at risk themselves, but have had to cope with the most changes.
A point that doesn't seem to be understood very well is that the face masks are to protect others. Most of the mask wearers I see in the shop seem to think it's protecting them. Most people using the shop don't wear them.
Everyone seems to be wearing them here, ummmm... out of interest, is there evidence which shoes they work one way best? If you knew you were seeing someone with covid, and there was only one face-covering... who would be better to wear it?

Can you give an example as I'm struggling to think of one. There are however some (former) Tories I could name on here (YMB would I'm sure be happy to be given as an example) who think this is complete overkill or some sort of hoax/plot to control us , and who now detest Boris and his government

Well this is not really another thread on face masks, but eh oh, now you mention it, hysteria or nonsense, enforced by government.
"eh ho"
You just had me humming this
I think Boris and his advisors have done a terrible job. I am not taking any notice of the 6 in a house rule - there will be 8 of us at Christmas and guess what -arrest me -cos I'm not choosing which guests can't sit at the table and not paying a fine either. It has now got to the point where either people aren't taking any notice or going completely over the top. We went out into the Dales last weekend and saw two old people hiking in the middle of nowhere wearing masks.
Fine by me ff, you are entirely correct.

I was one of Johnsons most keen advocates however over the past few months I am afraid I think he is not up to the job and is a big dissappointment.

The problem is most people get promoted past their point of competence (as its difficult to know where the line is until you cross it) the upshot of this is people in charge who should not be. I consider Johnson to be in this category, he should have stuck to his guns and not listened 100% to left wing 'scientists'

Currently the way our freedoms are being taken, and more by the day, we are heading for competition with the likes of North Korea. Now we even have the Covid 'Brownshirts' being sent out to our streets.

ff, no I won't name names, but considering the time you give to AB, and get involved in most threads, then I really don't see how you've managed to miss such remarks.
We have a duty to keep ourselves as safe as possible. I choose to wear face coverings ( as do my friends and family). Should you think it’s all hysteria, that’s fine, but don’t enter my space. The experts are the scientists not some flip flopped.
You should have thanked them They were protecting you not themselves. Every little helps.
As for larger groups, there will always be some selfish ones prepared to risk their health and that of others and perhaps take pleasure in sticking two fingers up at others including, indirectly, at doctors and nurses who have to deal with some cases
^That was for APG if that's still the name
Anne, not often I agree with you but I think that is a very good post.

I am happy to respect others space so long as they are happy to respect my views too.

Again its not about face masks, that subject been done many times, along with the same answers. If some ABs believe that the rules on covin, mainly lockdowns /mini lockdowns/ no more than 6 people/30 people, whatever, WHO is creating the nonsense/ hysteria, if that's what it is.??
Experts.
One thing that concerns me, maybe unnecessarily... is that even if all this handwashing, masks, social distancing etc. actually does make a difference... what will people's immune systems do next year?
I would expect flu deaths to go down this winter, as we have lost thousands of the most vulnerable already...
But I wouldn't be surprised, if in 6/12 months, we have a lot more deaths and problems with auto-immune problems, like asthma, hay fever, allergies, anaphylaxis... etc. As well as people being more ill from usually milder problems.
pixie why? My immune system is being given a good workout with allergies, minor gardening and crafting injuries, challenges from what I eat and so on.....oh and being licked by the dog! The immune system isn't only for inhaled viruses.
You don't have to wear them in the street. Just in shops etc.
Quite simple really, it would appear that a substantial number of people will ignore government recommendations and break the law to live their lives as they wish at the expense of the elderly who will scuttle back to their burrows in an effort to survive.
This is HERD IMMUNITY imposed subconsciously and inadvertently and will be the only way to tackle the vitus before a vaccine or drug therapy becomes available.
A second spike is and has always been............inevitable
Well said Sqad. Totally in agreement.
