rang just there now regarding a prescription in which I have to pick up from a pharmacy.

The receptionist there has told me they are not getting any Easter leave - all is cancelled because of the virus of course. Are yours the same.

Yes, doctors at my surgery are each working from home and working over the Easter break.
Our surgery is now only open until lunchtime (and not actually seeing any patients face to face anyway). So what the hell are they all doing in the afternoons?
Yes most in Bristol are open on the bank holidays, and my local one advised it may be the same in May as well.

diddly - mine are like that on a normal basis. think they play golf in the afternoons.

>So what the hell are they all doing in the afternoons?
What do you think they are doing? I doubt they are looking after their gardens, or jogging, or watching Netflix and chillin'
Golf courses open over there JJ?
Can't be golf now- most courses are closed.
And I always assumed they did home visits, paperwork, phone consultations in the afternoon. Not.
Ignore my "not!" !

Mamy - meant when there is no virus/normal circumstances. Surgeries finish at 1.00 pm every day
Question Author
we have two practices
Probably the same as before but more of it- especially home visits to elderly and care homes. And maybe some need to seek out supplies of PPE
I see, our practice has morning and evening surgeries, Saturday morning surgeries and any number of clinics each afternoon.

I don't know what their current hours are in this time as I have had no need to approach them.
Ruddy 'eck, Jennyjoan! 1.00pm?

Our surgery is open until 8.00pm on Mondays, then until 6.30pm from Tuesdays to Fridays and noon on Saturdays. They'll also be working normally over Easter.
Question Author
great surgery you have Mamy

we did have like a free for all (no appointment system) on a Thursday morning (can't remember specifically the illness (maybe diabetes) but they had to cancel as the world and his wife turned up with unrelated complaints
Question Author
fantastico Chris - that's great
^ Mines the same Mamyalynne. In fact the last time I was seen by a nurse it was on a Sunday- seems to be something 7 days a week there , and that was before Covid
Question Author
mind you we do only have perhaps 3 doctors for 5,000 patients according to one of the receptionists
>>> we do only have perhaps 3 doctors for 5,000 patients

I don't know how many patients are registered at our local surgery but the population of the town is just 5,000 (and there are several other surgeries in the area, so there aren't that many local villagers who'll be registered here). There are 7 doctors and a nurse practitioner at the surgery. They're supported by (among others) 3 nurses and 2 healthcare assistants.
Update to what I wrote above:
I said that my local surgery would be open as usual over the Easter weekend (which would have meant that they'd be closed on Sunday). They've just sent me a text to say that they'll be accepting urgent telephone appintments on every day across that period, including on Sunday.
Question Author
sometimes I'd like to leave but do think that in spite of us having well over hundreds of practices in the area I live in - they are all the same.

And I have built a somewhat rapport with some of the doctors.

Not the same as doctors from way back when when your doctor knew everything about you without having to scrutinise the computer screen.
