I listen to Pop Master most days on Radio 2 and i have been known to utter the words, "Not my genre of music." That's because i tend not to take any notice of who sings what if i don't particularly like the 'who' or the 'what' so the relevant information is not retained in my memory bank.
Its on a par with " Yeah, I was going to say that"
Why do people only go for 2 coins......
I will watch out for it gollob when I watch it on +1.

Coins? On The Chase?
was it the Chase? I heard it on Pointless.
As Ken Bruce points out on Pop Masters, "you've heard of the Battle of Hastings haven't you?"
Chase, Pointless. Still no coins?
Just seen that contestant,it was a comment, not an answer before he guessed incorrectly.
Tipping Point? That has coins.
It was the chase and the Governess beat the contestants.
To be fair to the chap, some of those questions were before his time.
Yes Tilly2, I was more correcting the OP about it being an answer, it is always a toss up with questions, but there was one lady tonight that was very good I thought at logically working out the correct answer.
Shakespeare, both World Wars are before everyone's time but it should be part of their general knowledge, otherwise why enter any quiz show?
The question wasn't about Shakespeare or a WW, it was about a fictional detectives sidekick and dog.
All of which were from 'before his time' as he was a relatively young man.
He got £8k in the cashbuilder but was unlucky with the chase questions; I would have been caught as well.
I think many like to explain that they don't know the answer due to being thick, but for some other reason. I don't think it needs criticising, it's a natural reaction. But it'd be nice to see older folk on being asked a youth interest question, saying, "It's after my time".

Personally I find it inexplicable how many folk clutter up their limited memory by holding load of "useless" knowledge, and as a result are good at quizzes. My brain goes a bit far the other way and tends to filter out and drop the non-useful stuff, perhaps a bit earlier than it should.
OG, // My brain goes a bit far the other way and tends to filter out and drop the non-useful stuff//
How can you deliberately forget something? It is either in your memory or it isn't.
Deliberately implies an intentional conscious act. What gets stored permanently, and so is available for recall, is done subconsciously as part of the automatic background processing. I'm given to believe it gets filtered/permanently stored or slung as we sleep, although I'm no expert.
OG //Personally I find it inexplicable how many folk clutter up their limited memory //
Doesn't that indicate a deliberate act i.e cluttering up ones mind?
That part, yes but only if it was a conscious attempt on the individual's part. Not if it's not deliberate. Opting to deliberately try to memorize something is different from not making a deliberate effort.

Learning something and letting the subconscious mind decide what to keep and what to drop results in a lot of stuff being dropped by my brain, whilst others seem to default to store and retain much of it.
