This second series is not as good as the first. Why do they persist in filming in near-darkness? I had no idea what was going on for a lot of the time last night.

This dark, dystopian tale well suits the atmospheric lighting. I think the whole thing is utterly brilliant.
Very few tv shows shock me but I'm finding this very disturbing, emotional and kind of hard to watch. I imagine its not too dissimilar to what people would've suffered in concentration camps under the Nazi regime. Its quite terrifying.
i wonder if any hard core christians would find handmaids tale world a utopia
Really chilling, isn't it tigger. I've never seen anything quite like it, but for me it's outstanding as far as television goes.
fender, I don't recall mention of Jesus Christ - but God features prominently in what appears to be a bible-based religion manufactured specifically for purpose. 'Praise be' .... and all that.
Blessed Be the Fruit” “May the Lord open
It is chilling Naomi. I don't think I would have the strength and emotional capability to endure what June is going through. I guess her child is whats keeping her going (alive) otherwise......!
tigger, I imagine few of us would have her strength - but it is only a story.... thank goodness!
Are there similarities with the Amish community?
Yes, thankfully!
There could be similarities in the costume design but that's about all I think.
Oh good. I know they follow some strict order but to what extent I wasn't sure. I don't mean that women are handmaids as depicted in the show but more a strict way of life.
They do follow a strict way of life - but nothing like that!! I can't wait for the next episode. She has to win eventually ... doesn't she?
i think there will be an uprising from within, the commanders wife is having second thoughts...maybe
Hope so but there seems to be a trend of bitter sweet endings in some dramas these days.
I know I mentioned this before but I’m staggered they they’ve milked 23 episodes so far out of what is not an epically long book. And a third series to come!
I never got round to watching series one after reading the book and I read a poor review of series 2. Which rather put me off.
I assume it they’ve taken the idea and decided there’s a lot of serialisation potential - somehow
A third series? Really? Oh, that poor woman!! ;o)
Quite!!!
Haaa! Love it so I really don't mind a third series. I must get around to reading the book.

Did you see the Margaret Attwood interview on television a week or so back? A very interesting lady.
No I missed it. The book, as you might imagine, is quite disturbing. The flashbacks by the narrator (can’t remember her name) are very effective
