Does anyone on here really prefer it now? I cannot believe Simon Mayo wanted this to happen to his previously brilliant show. It is totally boring now. Jo Whiley, please do the decent thing and quit, so we can enjoy drivetime again.

Totally agree, J W has taken over and Simon Mayo is just a passenger. The BBC just cannot stop tinkering with their programmes, if it has a winning formula they will surely destroy it.

It's all our old favourite djs but only on line
I used to really enjoy my drive home from work with Simon and the banter with Matt and Bobbi (I think that’s her name) but not any more - Jo has ruined it for me. The Confession is now on at a later time too so I’m home before it comes on.
I’ve also signed the petition - don’t know if it’ll make a difference but it can’t hurt.
I listened again briefly today - the lack of interaction is actually palpable, they are both so very different, they don't gel in the slightest. How long we, or indeed they, must put up with this nonsense is anyone's guess, but if I was Mayo, I'd be considering my options - it can't be worth this nonsense to keep a show in which he is now clearly second fiddle
If anybody reading this can tell me what the difference is between a wardrobe and Jo's wooden performance I would be delighted to hear it. It seems to be 'THE GRANNY SHOW' now with Jo droning on and on and on and on about HER middle class obsessions ie MY kids, My husband, My concerts, My thoughts on that are, My diets, My views, My attendance at Glastonbury, My 'I used to be young and vibrant'. My interesting waiting in the car choice, My interviews ten years ago with the Manics etc etc. My word do we hear anything worth listening to? As soon as it is 5pm I switch it off.
sadly i agree with all of you. unfortunately there's no way back really unless they invite simon back for his afternoon show on radio 5. however that's not going to happen as i believe he finished that because he had no desire to move to the north (and who would blame him?)
oh well, i'll just have to made do withe the inestimable Kermode and Mayo wittertainment podcast
Thank you for best answer, isn't it sad we had a thread on this subject? If it ain't broken the BBC will eventually break it.
Interesting that both parties 'had concerns' about the format - suggesting it was thrust upon them, and as contracted employees, they have no choice.

I think the BBC will tough it out - they hate to admit that they were wrong, even though this was never ever going to work, and anyone who knows anything about the show, the audience, and the presenters, could see this coming several miles off.
The BBC is taking the "Give it time, you'll get used to it …" line - they used to do that with Patrick Kielty, it didn't work then either!

This is radio, not physiotherapy - people don't want to 'get used it', they will simply switch off and a station flagship programme will have been detroyed on the alter of political correctness because some suits were too stubborn to realise that chasing social ideals and maintaining secure listening figures do not mix.

bednobs - // … however that's not going to happen as i believe he finished that because he had no desire to move to the north (and who would blame him?) //

Another piece of BBC nonsense, where the 'northern powerhouse' tripe was pedalled to people who have careers and lives and families, and like Mr Mayo, simply refused point blank to move to Manchester.

Did I say Manchester? Well of course that's another lie you an try and peddle to people who'se idea of 'the north' is Milton Keynes.

The BBC's Media City is not in Manchester, it's in Salford, and that's the city next to Manchester.

It's a bit like saying you want your employees to move to Islington, when actually you mean Peckham.

The BBC is obviously run by people who are not suited to the jobs they do - programme scheduling being the main one in the spotlight right now.

Let's see what happens,.
