For sometime now, viewers of Coronation Street have been complaining about the story lines.David and Max's Dad, (can't remember his name)Todd and the vicar, Phelan with the rape and murders, Bethany etc, and now the 2 girls playing lesbians. Next Year they are telling the story of male rape which involves one of the main characters.I read today that 5 actors are leaving Corrie now and in the New Year and I wouldn't be surprised if there will be more.Do you think they are leaving because of the story lines or is it just a coincidence?

Which five actors?

I'm not sure if it would be ok for me to say in case it spoils it for those who don't know.
Todd (Bruno Langley) has already left but Corrie script writers had to keep him on because they couldn't fix the scripts up in time.

Bruno was caught with his hand on two girls crotches whilst drunk. The rest I don't know.
They may still have a shred of self respect left.

I wonder if the actors perhaps enjoy the stories they can get their teeth into whereas the viewers can't get used to the sex, violence and new style of stories.
It's just a coincidence. Most of those leaving have reached the age where they think they still have a chance of making a success in serious drama or film.

hc, the only ones I can think of that did well after leaving Corrie are, Sarah Lancashire, Suranne Jones and Kathleen Kelly.I thought Alison King (Carla) would do well when she left, but I don't remember seeing her in anything, and now she is coming back.
I've heard of giving someone a big hand, but that's ridiculous.
Being in a soap is the kiss of death if you're in it for long and want to do anything serious, so maybe a few are early jumpers, I dunno I don't watch soaps. x
In the docu-drama, The Road To Coronation Street, which charted the soap's birth, it was inferred that the very young William Roche was using the role as a springboard to Hollywood. Yet, here he still is, a million and one years later.
Many actors actually return to the stage after leaving soaps. They say 'treading the boards' is what acting's all about.
Probably no storylines for some of them. Now that Todd has gone there might not be a suitable storyline for the vicar.
I hope you're right Danny, really don't like the vicar bloke. He looks really unkept with beard, and the faces he pulls...
At the moment the one I can't stand is Anna with her moaning and do-gooding.
Kvalidir, why are soaps the kiss of death?

Many successful actors have done Soaps, and why not?
It's an acting job like any other.

I bet you wouldn't pass up the chance to showcase your acting skills (assuming you have any) on National TV, not to mention the fat pay packet.
i think corrie has lost the plot, so much like eastenders, with it murders, rapes etc. I no longer watch for that reason.
Barsel, they think they're the next Sarah Lancashire....
You forgot Joanna Lumley, Anne Reid, Katherine Kelly, Matthew Marsden.
Question Author
hc I don't think many people will remember Joanna Lumley being in Corrie it was a long time ago but yes, I forgot about Anne Reid and I got Katherine's name wrong, I put Kathleen. I don't know who Matthew Marsden is, I'll look him up. There was a time when famous people wanted to be in Corrie for a short stint, but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. They need to get rid of some more of the actors, get some new ones in, and write some decent story lines for them or else people will stop watching.
DarceyK123 "kvalidir" is an excellent actress already, and was in one of the biggest films in recent history, many on here already know about her career, she is also starring in a film currently in production.
The transformation of Katherine Kelly from Becky to Lady Mae was absolutely stunning. Anne Reid, another fine actress who is a pleasure to watch.
I remember reading Steve - forget his real name - said for him to leave Corrie would be a "career suicide" and I think he's right.
