Sunset Boulevard at Milton Keynes theatre.......if you live in or near MK you're so lucky to have such a wonderful theatre...
Their sound system is just perfect......the lighting guys are excellent.....it's a lovely theatre staffed by lovely folk....
Sunset Boulevard lived up to my expectations.......when you've seen Glenn Close it takes someone gifted to match her and Ria Jones did.....but Danny Mac as Joe was the best I've ever seen.....
The orchestra was magnificent....lots for them to do in this show and they excelled....
A wonderful production......the heart stopping ending was almost spoiled by the laughing, chatting ladies behind me.......almost...... ;-)

I was so impressed that I saw it another 2 times.
I seem to recall that at least one of these had Elaine Paige, although I have mislaid the program for that performance.
Wonderful show !
As a side issue, I saw Elaine Paige in "Evita", in September 1978, again up in Town, with David Essex and Josh Ackland, all big stars at the time !

I know, Shoota.....must be getting old and grey.... :-(
I love the show, Mikey.......we had arranged a coach trip to see it in London but then it was announced that Elaine Paige was taking the lead....really didn't want to go as I'm not fond of her but I had to take the other fifty or so folk....
She was excellent....good enough for a standing ovation from me....
A great show...x

Gness...in my memory, Paige is my favourite Norma Desmond, although LuPone would come a very close second.
The modern actresses taking this role must have tremendous problems, getting over the ghosts of Paige and LuPone, in the same way that anybody taking over Lady Bracknell, must have Edith Evans sitting on their shoulders ::::::

So, Shoota....You worked together?...or...You lived together?...;-)
You're so right, Mikey.....taking over a roles like these must be so difficult....but.....Glenn Close is Norma!
Elaine Paige is take or leave for me though she was brilliant in the role....Ria Jones has a wonderful voice and she can act....but it's the acting....the playing of Norma that makes Close my choice....x
