Google doesn't seem to know of anything linking CL to the works of Paul Gaugin and then only recent news item I can find is about a 'copy' being deemed to be an original via a BBC programe:

Made an interesting programme tonight, not for the owner of the non-Gauguin obviously but the sketch that was right was a fabulous find.

The Op was trivially jokey.
There was a resemblance, though the lady wasn't as tall as Christine.
I have no idea who Christine Lagarde is so the joke went over my head too.
