Well done Meryl Streep.
An intelligent speech, much admired.
Nothing wrong with the speech.....quite well prepared.
Not sure that the Golden Globes is the place to present it.
I don’t know about that Sqad.....you use the platform that you have......
She had a point to make and an audience and media to make it to. Well done.
No better place, captive audience, media reporting afterwards.
No better place ... an adoring audience.

Interesting - a millionaire, massively talented artist uses their fame and position to make sure that their public platform which reaches millions of people around the world is used to make an absolutely valid political and social message spoken from the heart, and hopefully heeded and acted on by the people who hear it.

When its Meryl Streep, she is rightly lauded for her actions, and respected for her views, her talent, and her use of the second to facilitate the airing of the first.

So here is the question - why is it wonderful when Meryl Streep does it - and it is - but laughable and scoffed at when Bono does exactly the same thing?

Just a thought ...
Powerful and eloquent words from Meryl.

I haven't heard Bono's speech so can't compare, sorry.
I haven't heard Bono's speech either.
me either.... have you got a link Andy?
mind you I have never personally laughed or scoffed at Bono
I am not suggesting that Bono made a parallel speech at this event, merely that his views when expressed uniformly attract scorn and derision, even though they are offered from a similar moral standpoint, and fiscal position.
andy-hughes, //his views when expressed uniformly attract scorn and derision//

That surely depends upon what he's said. In this instance I have no idea what you're referring to.
An adoring audience? Her speech was televised globally Talbot so not all "adoring fans " certainly not Trump .!!!
well that depends on what his views are......if he says that its rude to mock disabled people and when a world leader does it publicly its not a good thing and will attract and support bad behaviour in his or her followers, then I could support that. if he says that wanting to throw all non nationals out of a country simply because they are non nationals, then I could support that too.
blimey....naomi and I have said the same thing!!!
I'd have to balance what Bono said and of course the way he couched it before I could comment.
haha! Best have a lie down, woofgang. ;o)
She asks (and answers)
'What is Hollywood ... just a bunch of people from other places'

It's a bunch of people who pretend to be other people and get paid handsomely to do so.

Illegal immigrants are a bunch of people who pretend to be other people who get paid peanuts which in return will allow unscrupulous bosses to pay peanuts to the legal citizens.

Now I may have missed it but from what she goes on to say I could be mistaken for thinking that Donald Trump has called for a ban on immigration ... has he?
