I have just watched this and can recommend it to everyone ....why can't we have more programs like this ?

I had the very great pleasure of seeing her on the stage a few times over the last 40 years, and most notable in "A Little Night Music" on the South Bank.

If any of you have an opportunity to see her live, then please do....she won't last for ever !

It was a lovely programme, and what a fantastic actress she is.
It was very enjoyable despite touching on almost everything I already knew - I could listen to her voice for hours.

Mamy...if I had to make a choice of who to listen to, reciting from the telephone directory, either Allan Bennett or Dame Judi, it would be an awful choice to make.

By the way, I also watched "Ladies in Lavender" this afternoon :::::

Thanks Tilly....I am not sure where I would be without your help in my spelling-typing errors !
Sorry to be pedantic, Mikey. I can't help it!

Its perfectly OK Tilly....once must make every effort to be clear !
I won't correct that!
We were taken on a school trip 56 years ago to see her at The Old Vic as Viola in Twelfth Night. We were told that there was a new actress in the cast that would go on to great things and be a world famous actress. They were right!
I doubt she'll be performing live much more, she's as good as blind.

I saw her as Hamlets Mum, in 1989, with Ian Charleson in the eponymous role. He had stepped in at the last minute, as Daniel Day-Lewis had suddenly and controversially left the production.

A small note here....also playing alongside Dame Judi was Michael Bryant ...truly one of the best stage actors we ever had.

People will remember him from the marvellous "Roads to Freedom" on the Beeb.
In the same cast for Twelfth Night that year were Jane Downs as Olivia, Michael Hordern as Malvolio, and Jimmy Edwards as Sir Tony Belch!
