being blue eyed, i am so sensitive to the sun, and all the sunglasses i've bought have never been up to scratch. i've spent a small fortune, usually buying ray bans, or at present, police. apart from not being all that protective against the sun, they tend to break easily.
any suggestions

Sorry I don't know the answer but are blue eyed people really more sensitive to the sun?

has the sun got to you ummmm, lol
I bought a pair of "Dirty Dog" sunglasses about 10 years ago, (my eyes are also blue and really sensitive to the sun) they really are excellent, and they are still as good as new.
Go to Specsavers and get a pair of varifocals with photochromic lenses. You can wear these all day as they will automatically adjust.
I have green blue eyes and bought a pair of Raybans 7 years ago - best glasses I have ever bought very robust.
I used to buy RayBans but they have just become far too expensive these days. I can recall buying my first pair on holiday in California in 1992 and they cost me £25, when they were £100 here at home !

Now I go to Halfords and buy some Polaroid ones, for about £15, and they are just as good as the expensive ones. Expensive sunglasses are now little more than a fashion accessory.
My uncle still has his army issued Raybans...

Piggy...I'm asking because I have quite light blue eyes and I just presumed that everyone was sensitive to the sun.
photophobia is an issue for anyone with light coloured eyes just not blue.
I have Blue eyes and have used RayBans for years with no problems.

The worst you can buy are the kind which are just a fashion accessory. If the lens has zero protection against ultraviolet rays then, because the tinted lens causes the pupil to dilate, the retina is exposed to more UV than if you wore nothing.

A layer of glass as thick as a window pane will completely block UV (hence you can't get a tan in your conservatory) and glass lenses will provide at least some protection. Brands will use UV protection as a selling point so check the labels. Some claim to have a special coating and I'd guess this is similar to what is used in the UV filter camera accessory.

You say they keep breaking? Do you mean the lenses smash or is it the frame snapping?

I have worn a pair of Zeiss polaroids, aviator type gold frames. I swear by them. They are great for driving or walking, light, robust, and look ok with a suit or a pair of shorts. Brown coloured lenses. They look like the ones issued to Rommels Africa Corps. Super sunglasses.
Almost identical av. Lol. Where can I get hat like that?
I have Oakley wrap around sunglasses ideal for driving and beach leching (dont tell the B&C ). Bought in 1999 in the shop in the basement of the twin towers.......
Haha av. Reminds me of the Frank Carson gag. He said his family were so poor he had to wear a school uniform bought at the Army Navy store. He then said it was no fun going to school dressed like.................................................................Admiral Hirohito.

Sorry for diverting piggy.

Yeah I remember that gag, Togo. Although I have to say that the Army Navy store was the only place to get a 'Correct' Parka.

This is the best place now av. I had my parka from there with the wolfskin hood. I also had my MA1 Alpha Industries flying jacket from there and a few sheemah scarves. It is in your neck of the woods. Great company to do business with. Reliable and good advice for sizing etc.
We used to buy them for a couple of quid av. Mop up scooter oil etc. and chuck em away. A genuine 1948 reconditioned one is now about £1200. Doh.
