I've just watched the finale and have really enjoyed the series, has anyone heard whether they are going to make a second series?

Left with plenty for them to go on and if they have finished off poor Davey, as it looks like they have, I wonder if Alma will find herself with child after her liaison with the architect. Potential for Coates to cause more issues and potential problems with Isabella eyeing Jonny up.

I do hope they continue it.

Eve,...when I saw we had 5 episodes recorded to Tivo box, i realised there was no way we were gonna watch 'em, so deleted the lot! Mustn't have enjoyed the small bit we watched. Strange, cos normally we like Catherine Cookson style ones ;)

Some weird scheduling pitching it against a tried and trusted ratings winner has seen viewing figures slump to 2.96m viewers for the last few episode and considering it cost more than £1m to produce each episode its anybody's guess
I stuck with it but there was something about the way it was directed that was 'wrong'. Can't put my finger on it. I was disappointed with the ending, I expect it has been done like that so that there can be a follow on series.

Wow, that is a huge amount of money per episode! It didn't look that expensive! Maybe it's lost out to people recording it or watching it on catch up, unless they are able to get those statistics somehow.

I go to bed early so always watched it the next day.

It was a disappointing ending, especially if they don't get to follow it up with a new series, very much so hanging it out for one.
watched it but not over keen not fussed whether they bring it back or not
Must admit, i agree with clara55. I said at the very beginning that it had potential in that it was different (building a viaduct hasn't been portrayed before, i think?) but that i hoped the inevitable 'love' element of the story didn't detract. Wouldn't be too miffed if no second series is commissioned.
Enjoyed it and hope they do another. It didn't get strung out like some series do.
It usually says if there is to be another series. We watched all the episodes but I felt it was lacking in star power, neither if the leads seemed strong enough. The brother, whose name I cant recall - always a sign the program is not powerful enough - seemed very much a cardboard cut out.
i1ve had a look in the usual places to see if it gets renewed but nothing yet - maybe soon.
lynbrown @ 10.42; For me, a sure sign that the programme isn't powerful enough is when, at the end of so many episodes, i don't particularly care about what happens to the main characters. And i didn't.
I felt it was made longer than it needed to be.
The 'ending' wasn't an ending at all. We were very disappointed with the final episode. The viaduct will never get finished unless someone is put in charge who will stop the fighting and excessive drinking!

I must admit the "trial" was a bit of a damp squib, save Coates trying to get rid of Jonny, the lad just getting up and all being well kind of made all that had been done before a bit pointless really which was a shame.

The brother was a bit two dimensional, even with the whole rescue.

I found it difficult to have much sympathy for Alma I have to say.

That said though, if it came back I would watch it as I did enjoy it.

I guess they hedged their bets that if they finished everything up nicely it might cut the odds of them getting another series made.
