it was a bit contrived but moving nevertheless...
what happened?
I haven't watched corrie for many years, but forgive me if I am wrong here but didn't Kirkbride die age ago ?
in the story Deirdre died because of aneurism (sp) was due home to a surprise 60 birthday party..in reality she died a wee while ago ; breast cancer which spread to brain
I thought it was handled as sensitive as possible Bev who Deirde was looking after returned with the sad news that Deirdre had died peacefully probably from an aneurism it was sad as the characters were grieving for Anne Kirkbride all the Corrie characters were in the Rovers to hear the news and it was poignant!
Very nicely done I thought. RIP Anne.
I would have liked a better storyline too, tezmand.
We have been reading for months just how much Anne Kirkbride was loved and will be missed by the rest of the cast. So i expected to see some real grief in tonight's episode but - with just one or two exceptions - what i actually saw was some terrible acting. The sentiments were almost as false as the tears.
Agree with Ken. Thought most of the acting was terrible, especially Tracy.
It must have been very difficult for every one to act that part especially when it was one of there own and so well loved .I don't think Ken needed to act at the end his tears were real .R.I. P anne
I agree with Ken4155 too, the acting was terrible, I expected real grief too.
Define "real grief". You seem to be after more sadness than sadness. It's sad, but she's a soap actress, even the soap has to move on.
I think it would have been better if Deidre had just run off with a new man into the sun - eaiser on the cast, less prone to maudlin sentiment which may run for weeks.

The last time a character wept over a pair of specs was Hilda Ogden crying over 'Stanley's specs, after the death of Bernard Youens, the actor who played him.

Jean Alexander's tears were heart-rending - but then all soap acting was of a higher calibre then - less pressure to make so many episodes in a week.
I found it very uncomfortable viewing. I think however the episode which told of Deirdre's death was written, it was never going to be easy for the cast to act or the audience to watch, it just had to be done so that the programme can draw a line and move on without her.

Agree with Ken and Andy? And surely the hospital would have a duty to tell the next of kin of a death and not leave it to a friend, or give the friend the departed's belongings.
I thought it was OK. They all reminisced about her in the pub which was fitting. Ken was never a good actor anyway !
i didnt hear them say that the hospital had given Bev Deirdre's clothes, she told Ken she had her clothes in the car!
Marshwarble at 0845; What i meant was that many of the cast have been expressing just how much they miss Anne Kirbride - not the character Deirdre. So, surely, there would have been no need for acting from some of the cast - the grief would have been real. As i said earlier, it looked false from quite a few of the cast because they were acting - quite badly, too, imho.
I agree with Andy and Ken
Not at all well acted
