AOG...From the exchange the Indian woman and the wife had on the train I would guess that the Indian woman is staff.
^ That's Dougie Raworth. He's a Missionary.
I enjoyed it. Promises to be a good series when it unfolds. The scenery was stunning. Hard to image it all took place less than 90 years ago.
I thought it was brilliant .I think it'll get a bit deep .Julie Walters was good .
She seems to have a hold on them somehow .I bet she knows all their murky secrets and past misdemeanors !
sorry to disagree, I found it boring, hard to follow and hard to hear (but that may just be me) really don't think I'll watch another episode.
I was looking forward to this but fell asleep at 21:50 ! Will try to catch before next week.

But on the strength of what I did see, it appears to be no "Jewel in the Crown"
Question Author
I thought the same, boring, didn't keep me interested.
I never watched 'Jewel in the Crown' properly (picked up bits) but I found this much more interesting than 'The Casual Vacancy', which we gave up on, in that the setting and relationships seemed very realistic. Will give it another go (The C.V. has been consigned to outer darkness.)
Lets hope we can put two and two together...sooner than later... But for those who enjoyed it and understood it please will you answer a couple of questions for me please?
The man who got shot....was he the one that should have met the indian girl at 8. ?
Who was the man who shot him?
Why did he want to shot him or was it supposed to be the other man? and why?

Many thanks
Yes he was the clerk who was supposed to meet the girl .His mother doesn't approve of her as she's a Hindu ,but he was kept back looking for some lost paperwork by Ralph Whelan, and was shot by mistake .The bullet was meant for Whelan and he obviously knew the man because he chased after him and said "It's you"when he caught him .The man called him (Whelan) a demon/devil.
The man was on the train at the beginning and jumped off onto the tracks ,he had the gun in his bag.The man is now in the clink and perhaps we'll find out next week who he is.
Whelan is pretty obviously a nasty bit of work .

That's my take on it anyway :)
Barsel thankyou although it gave me an idea of who Julie Walter was. I am still puzzled... must be dimmer than I thought! lol x
shaney.. thankyou x
OH fell asleep half way through, I struggled with it I admit, though the scenery was gorgeous, don't like Julie Walters either, kept waiting for her to fart like on Dinner Ladies. Don't think we'll carry on with it, too mumble and dark also
Watched it as it got some good reviews but found it a bit of a chore, the scenery and opulence was the best bit about it and Julie Walters is an acquired taste as well!
