Investigation at Bolton school over alleged comments about Muslim girl's scarf.

What would be an appropriate response if proven?

A teacher commenting that they'd sling the thing the pupil's fiddling with in the bin ? They need to have gone to school in my day. The teacher just needs to be reminded that the world's gone nuts, so to be careful in future.

We don't know the tone or context that the alleged comment was made but if those exact words were uttered does it necessarily indicate Islamaphobia?
An appropriate response would be to lighten the f*** up and disregard frivolous, attention seeking complaints from the professionally offended.
An offer of compensation including, but not limited to, free flights and resettlement costs to the affronted family members to a sandy wasteland of their choice where females are denied any rights and everyone lives in fear of death by lunacy should also be immediately forthcoming.
The headteacher and police officers wasting time and money need a right good looking at too.
yet another example of why anybody thinking of going into teaching these days needs either a head examination or a medal.

OG, times have indeed changed and comments of the alleged type come under closer scrutiny. I agree with your response, a quiet word in the teacher's ear should suffice.

Prudie - treading on eggshells, how does a teacher today rebuke someone of a different faith without fear of it backfiring?
How does a teacher rebuke ANYONE without getting parental wrath at the end of the day?
Well how do they, forgetting faith how do they rebuke any pupil, seems to me you'd need to write everything down and check for its gardening leave potential before it comes out of your mouth.
I don't think a crime has been committed, though perhaps the complainants should be and charged with wasting police time too.

Boxtops, I wonder how much time teachers have to spend defending themselves against claims of over-disciplining.

Even worse where accusations of racism are claimed.

Scrivens - would you say that to the Head Teacher if you were a teacher? You wouldn't last long.

Fair enough Scrivens.
I'm fed up of people taking offence at everything. What a waste of time a good teacher suspended because a child cannot be told to sit still. Why do they wear that ridiculous costume anyway it's totally inappropriate in this country?
The appropriate response would be to do as the French have done and ban all religious symbols in schools - because that's all the headscarf is.
Can I be bothered to reply? Yes because so many of you are speaking common sense. Teaching in some areas has been a minefield for a heck of a long time. How many of you have reprimanded a pupil for dancing on a desk as you walk into a classroom and, when you disciplined and halted said pupil, been told ' It's because you're racist, it's because I'm black'? That's a minor problem these days. I'm willing to answer any sensible questions on teaching in 98% Muslim areas until 2002.
