I have been reading about new research which suggests there may be a link between hair dye and an increased risk of Alzheimers or Parkinsons disease, or even some cancers.  My question is, are they talking about dyes in which your whole head is covered when it is applied therefore the chemicals can be absorbed through the skin ?   Like many women I have highlights but the chemicals do not actually touch my scalp and are only on the hair, but although hair is like nails etc. can things be absorbed into the body through the hair ?

I hope not as I have been dying my hair with permanent colour for 13 years. But then again is there anything we can do anymore that won't give us cancer or some other sort of illness????

Very very weird. Personally, I can't for the life of me work out how that would work. Alzheimers occurs where the neural structure gets tangled or plaqued, around the front and side of brain. Parkinsons is where the dopamine neurotransmitter in the substantia nigra gets depleted. Not sure how either of these could be attributed to the action, even indirect, of hair dye.

It is possible to waken up one day with total drug induced Parkinsons (I think a type of PCP). Maybe it's a similar mechanism.
