Surely this is not the answer, if they wish to deter 'sleepers', surely they could have installed large concrete troughs or urns planted with attractive bushes?

Sorry DrFilth I have just spotted your post on the subject.
don't worry, no problem, you may get a better response
Shall I clip this one off?
You into circumcision now Ed?

Often areas need to be kept clear for safety reasons etc thus offering a dossing opportunity.

when we had offices in the West End the fire exit recesses were very tempting as bedrooms and bathrooms and one often wished they weren't there.

However, as the doors opened onto pavements they had to be recessed to avoid passer bys being thumped by a door being flung open.

Could those doors not have been hinged so that they opened inwards? ^
It's a shame that property owners have to resort to this.

Perhaps they wouldn't need to if the Local Authorities took proper responsibility for what was happening on their streets?
LOL sandy

Fire Doors opening inwards is probably more of a design feature in Bangladeshi textile factories
surely the corridors leading to the fire doors in the West End wouldn't be blocked with bails of cheap cotton to be used for Primark T-shirts?
even so, I take your point
You've never seen Ad Agency personnel panicking for the exit in a life or death situation have you Sandy?

It was bad enough in the Wine Bar when the Bill appeared or when someone came in wearing the same designer shirt.
good idea, sandy. and we could put the push-bars on the outside. ;-)
Great ideas there, Svejk. And when the rough sleepers needed to they could come out of the bad weather.
now we're smoking. ;)
I have to say the wording of the question made me laugh. I thought 'Surely this is not the answer..' was going to be followed with suggestions for how we could ease the plight of the homeless, but it's more a landscaping issue apparently.

Sorry to have made you laugh, obviously it is not your usual practice.

The problem here is that they chose to install these studs when a much more feasible solution could have been found.

If you have a solution to the more complicated issue of the homeless problem, then please feel free to enlighten us.

now you point out, Ludwig, it is very droll. ;-)
you should have claimed it as a witticism, aog. ;o)

The cost of maintaining plants in city offices is horrendous, (fakes don't look good either). The Studs have a one-off cost and they work. It is up those in power to provide for r/sleepers not the owners of private property either private or commercial to provide their dosshouses.
