Does anyone know the name of a film about a group of people that carried a boat through the jungle to sail it down the Amazon river?

it was indeed called Fitzcarraldo from about 1982. Directed by Werner Herzog, I remember it was about an Irish guy in Peru and he tried to get a steamboat over hills from one river to another in the Amazon. A bit bizarre but it was a few years ago when i saw it. Try imdb.
