Would it be correct to write "So, the race was finally started." - is finally started a kind of oxymoron and if so, is it still correct to use? Ta Muchly.

IMO, no the phrase as written justs indicates that the race was subject to a delay, and was at some time after the schedeuled start begun.

Many Thanks for that, Nibble!
It would be better if it was written as 'Finally, the race started.'
