OK I get the whole "ground hog day" bit but the main character is not aware of her crimes at the start of each cycle and proceeds with false assumptions throughout until the reveal, so if this is a punishment what's it's trying to achieve and how long will it go on? Anyone know a good explanation of what Brooker is trying to get across here?

She's not aware 'during' but does spend all that time terrified and disoriented.

And of course it serves as entertainment for the masses.

I think CB was inspired by Derren Brown's Apocalypse; thought 'that's quite a horrible thing to put someone through' which leads to 'could we use it as a form of public punishment?'
She may have been aware until they started messing with her mind, I thought it was very strange and compelling watching.
