The layout in these stores drive me mad, everything all crammed together on hangers and nothing displayed nicely on models - I have yet to buy any clothes from here. There is lots of space to walk around each shop so wouldn't you think they would have a few more hanging rails to leave more space to push the coat hangers along? Does anyone else feel like this - or is it just me?

it's an outlet store, they sell surplus lines from previous seasons, there is no need to display it,
You're right Ann, it's one step up from a jumble sale sometimes.
Would they not sell more of it DJ, if you could see it a bit better?

Lots of outlet stores are much better than this Dotty ........... I have heard other people walking round saying the same thing ..........
>>>they sell surplus lines from previous seasons

True, but they might object to such a simplistic description!

From their website:
"The majority of our stock is fashionable, current season merchandise while a small percentage is past season (always clearly labelled) or timeless classics."

I actually like their layout. It shouts "This is my type of shop" (i.e. cheap!) to me ;-)
It depends on the store. My nearest (Kingston) is chaotic but I was in the Staines one the other day and it was quiet and spacious.
the customers are the ones that make the mess, the end of day tidy up (if there are enough staff) sorts it out but it will re-occur once the public are allowed back in the next day. all retailers tidy in the last hour of trading, they have to clear up the havoc shoppers create.

Having said that - our M&S flagship store has had a major refit recently and its the most awful layout imaginable, even the shop assistants say it is! I get completely lost in there, there is no central aisle and its even easy to lose track of which way you are facing, as you wander round and round looking for items you need. :)
the current season merchandise is usually 'seconds' rejected by other high street retailers
As a comparison, my local branch of Primark (ipswich) has clothes all over the place (possibly bundled in piles or even simply strewn across the floor) with a very basic layout. Their big store on London's Oxford Street is plush, with everything neatly organised, well-lit and well-displayed. I MUCH prefer the Ipswich store; I feel out of place in the Oxford Street one!
central aisles make no money. cos they are empty
Well, they're cheap and that's all that matters to me, it's the price you pay (pardon the pun). TJ Maxx in the US are exactly the same.
lol Chris, Primark have night staff that tidy and re-stock overnight ready for the next day's trade, it's customers that throw stock across the floor
Question Author
You are right about the customers Dotty, they treat Primark like a jumble sale ........ I saw 2 young girls actually throwing jeans from a counter onto the floor (I was a coward and told an assistant instead of approaching them!)
I buy from TK Maxx online, have bought some great clothes.
I am with you on this one. I love TK Maxx but most of the time I can't be bothered to heave clothes along so I can see what's available. I love their homeware section though.

I actually quite like Matalan, the layout is better and you can see everything similar grouped together, sometimes in colour schemes (and that is cheap too!)
I don't have the patience for TKMaxx (not big on shopping) but himself has got some bargains in there (got me a really, super-duper warm winter coat - although I wouldn't have paid the price he did even if it was about 1/4 of the original price). He has also got the girls some fab (but pikey) dress-up dresses from there.

//I love their homeware section though//
Yes muchlove I agree, they have some stylish things for the home, they tend to be upstairs away from the fashion in my local stores, its a different world upstairs :)
I do like TK Maxx but

They just need to have enough rails to hang the stock without cramming it together.
Is it policy to hang as much stock as possible in as smaller space as possible?
