One can but hope...
God knows.
Question Author
Yes indeed Mark.
Serendipitously, a programme on Bletchley Park is about to begin on Yesterday...
Question Author
Checking it as we speak!!!
These people ought to be as well known as Churchill, Montgomery et al...
Question Author
Unsung heroes all!! Recording it - thanks Mark.
Yes, better late than never that attention has been drawn to them recently. Excellent programme.
But Churchill & Montgomery chose the public eye, the personnel at Bletchley were recruited and quietly got one with the task in hand.

The extent of the work and the exposure of those who made a contribution is a recent development and many still favour the anonymity.
But no less important!
No less important but entitled to their privacy. Their contribution can be lauded in generic terms but individuals should have the right to privacy.
No doubt about that. How about rephrased as "their contribution to the war effort and preservation of British freedom is just as important as that of Churchill, Montgomery, etc al...?"

Churchill and Montgomery had no option but to be in the public eye - but that shouldn't detract from the vital work that was done by those, quite rightly, restricted from the public gaze. How I would have loved to have worked on something like that!! My admiration for those silent but brilliant heroes knows no bounds!!
Agreed 100%, naomi...
MR, I prefer the rephrased version.

Naomi, I agree with you but politicians DO choose to be in the public eye.

BTW, I enjoyed this mini-series too, but I did think it got a bit too 'Famous Five' towards the end.
I'm sure that I read a second series has been commissioned.

EcclesCake, of course they do....

.... and hc, I hope you're right. I really enjoyed this.
I don't know the program - was it a documentary or a drama based on Bletchley park?
I didn't realise these were 3, I saw one I recorded last week, it had been on some time ago. Just set to record on +1.
They were amazing people, there are so many people who did remarkable things in WWII that they've never talked about and if we don't make the effort their stories will be lost in time and red-tape. There was a programme once about women who delivered Spitfires, one lady said her family never knew about it until the '70s and then they didn't believe her.
