They're still bleating on about a "mansion" tax.

So you work hard all your life.

Instead of blowing your income on foreign holidays, cars, etc ... you struggle to pay the huge mortgage to buy a nice house.

Finally, it is paid off.

You retire, and have just enough to live on, but you have your lovely home.

You haven't enjoyed a high life, because everything you earned went into your home.

And now those horrid little plebs down the road want to screw you for more tax? That will teach you not to be thrifty! In your next life, just blow the lot on women and foreign holidays, then the nasty little Lib Dems will leave you alone.

Those malicious little plebs, busily enjoying the high life at their annual beano (sorry, "conference") should get out of our town right now.

And ... breathe.

Rant over.

Yay, rocky ...

:0)
You have a point there, Plebs!!
You work really hard and buy your nice

£2,000,000 house

Seriously JJ ?

How many people scrimp and save to buy a 2 million pound house?

All these "tax the wealthy" Lib Dems ...

Where are they all staying??

Is it The Queens, or the Albion?

Or could it be ... The Grand ????
the difference between houses and holidays/cars is that you pass the former, entirely unearned, to your children; the latter involves spreading your wealth more widely, to the betterment of your fellow citizens (eg Mr Saga, Mr Porsche). Also, you occupy a lot of land in a country which (I am assured in the News section) is frightfully overcrowded.

Around here, Jake ... Lots of people.

It may have only cost £100,000 when you bought it!

A friend's parents recently sold a house they had bought for ... wait for it ... £3,000 ... and sold it for £2.3m

One day, they will die, and my pal will have to pay £800,000 inheritance tax!! But that's not enough for the Lib Dems. They want to screw even more out of that property.
Always said we couldn't afford a Lib Dem Government.
Or Green!
Question Author
Are the Lib Dems really worried about people receiving "unearned" money, jno?

I don't hear them proposing to tax Lottery winners.
Question Author
Green would be okay.

When Brighton becomes independent, we will have a Green PM.
did they put £2,200,700 worth of work/materials into the place?

If not, what on earth are they moaning about? Every penny they make is free.
What annoys me most about the "tax the rich" solution from the lib dems is that it is all about the "easy" solution of taxing the very people who generate the wealth in this country.

But the goverment continues to spend (and waste) millions, if not billions, each year, so how about trying to cut that. Yes it wil be hard work, but that is why you are in government.

Like here, where 469 MILLION pounds was wasted by setting up regional control centre for the fire service (a scheme started by labour I will admit).

It seems it is so easy just to tax people with money, how about trying to cut the MASSIVE housing benefit bill, which costs this country about 4 billion each year, and probably contributes to the rising cost of renting a place.

But is that to much like hard work? Yeh lets just tax the rich, easy eh!
well, that's exactly what the lottery's for - creating unearned wealth.

And that's because all other unearned wealth is taxed, or should be. Why should people get things without earning them just because mummy and daddy are rich?
Well clearly it's much fairer to raise taxes on the average man in the street than to ask those poor peopple in thei 2 million pound homes to dig a little deeper.

Is this personal JJ?

You don't happen to live in a two million pound home do you?
Question Author
The point is, jno ...

The Lib Dems wanted to tax them if they stayed in the house.

They didn't have much income, and certainly couldn't afford to pay a "mansion tax". Their home was all they had. The Lib Dems would have forced them to give up their home.
and why shouldn't they go for easy money before they go for hard money? Doing the easy stuff first is entirely logical.
