So I've downloaded this App on my iPad called "Soothing Lite"

It has supposedly soothing sounds ... like streams, and the beach, etc ...

And one called The Essence Of Peace, which is just like the thing they play in the changing room at David Lloyd.

And ... there's one (which I've got on at the mo) called "Plane Cabin". It's that sort os humming, whining sound that you get on an aircraft when everyone is quiet ... like flying at night, when they're all asleep, or reading.

I just wondered ... is it possible that not everyone is soothed by the sound of being on board a passenger aircraft at night?

I couldn't think of anything worse JJ. The last thing to rest my mind would be the thought of being on a plane.
I am petrified of flying...............haven't been on a plane since about 1983.

I think a few people might agree with you, Rocky.
Well they all seem to pass out pretty quickly. Might be the booze though!

OMG, craft ... Seriously ???????

How do you go places? Not on a sick making boat?

I haven't been on a plane since ... earlier today.
I used to go to Spain and the South of France by ferry and train. Then I started going on cruises (which I love).

I'm feeling queasy just reading craft's post.

I need to turn up the Plane Cabin sound to calm me down!
Cruises are fantastic..............no limits on luggage, lovely food, marvellous beauty salons, all your laundry done, a personal butler..................what more could one want.
I watched 'Fatal Flight 447 : Chaos in the Cockpit' tonight (Ch4). Dropping into the sea at 500mph in a rapid, uncontrolled descent would require some remarkable soothing sounds !
I suppose it is nice just a hum of an engine while everyone else sleeps. Alas for me I couldn't sleep on a plane I'm too aware of all the crush of people around me (chattering class) and the various viruses and bugs they are breathing into the atmosphere. It's not much fun trying not to breathe deeply from London Heathrow to Perth Australia.
At work we have a sound machine for the cot room. When it's on heartbeat I feel like I can nod off as well!!

I can probably fall asleep through anything actually. I find noise in general quite soothing. When my Mum and Dad used to have parties I would quite often flake out right in the middle of it all!!
Things like engine noises are supposed to be soothing because, subconsciously, they remind us of being in the womb, or so i've heard. That's why so many children fall asleep in cars!
I'm OK with the "whining" noise. What gets me is when it goes almost silent just before landing - is anything still powering the thing?

I think an aircraft is relaxing because, subconsciously, you associate the sound with going somewhere jolly ... or having just been somewhere jolly.

Plus, no one is likely to disturb you on a plane ... unless though in the window seat needs to get out for the loo, LOL.
I would much prefer the sound on the water lapping on the sea shore.

There is one like that, GM.
When my daughter was a baby I used to plug the hoover in nearby her pram, she would go to sleep straight away.
Was that after she's been sucked up?
I find the sound of rain relaxing, but plane noise, definitely not! Will be on an overnight flight soon, should be sleeping but instead will be listening out for strange noises, eg "is that the engine falling off" :)
ok if fewer people on board/own private plane
