Oldies in the workforce

There was a programme on last night about people having to probably work longer in the future before getting their pensions .
Can't think off hand what it was called but those two people from the Apprentice presented it .They put some older people back out to work !
The tradesmen seemed to get along OK but some of the others just couldn't hack it especially the former nurse who was 73 and had a job to take a blood test as she lacked dexterity in her hands and wasn't computer savvy .
Did any of you see it? Part two is tonight .
Would you put your trust in an over seventy year old plumber/nurse/electrician etc?

So it will just be old people hanging round the streets jno!!! ;o)
Yes 20 years olds do need to work, but denying old people jobs they are doing well and enjoying will not necessarily make those jobs available for 20 year olds who have spent there time hanging around the streets. Bring back apprenticeships where the old can train the young and cut back on the idea of all young people going to university where they get ridiculous degrees that qualify them for absolutely nothing.

even university keeps them off the street. A huge amount of crime, I forget the statistics, is to do with bored young men. Bored old people aren't any great danger

I agree on that too .Far to many youngsters leaving Uni these days in debt up to their eyeballs and with Mickey Mouse degrees in herbal medicine .
I remember the younger Shaney going for an apprenticeship with British Gas when he left school .He didn't have a degree though and was turned down . I asked a chap who was customer in the shop where I worked about this ( BG chap) and he said it was ridiculous .
He said to give him a lad who wanted to learn from the bottom up and he would train him properly .The degree apprentices he had didn't want to get their hands dirty and thought they should go straight into middle management and be telling him what to do .

A lot of young people expect too much in my opinion. They expect to go into jobs with very little knowledge and yet get middle management wages. It's just the way of the world these days.
Still don't think that age should play a part. It's whether you can do the job and may the best man(woman) for the job win.
