Anyone would think that the Daily Mail is baiting their own readership in this thorough non-story...and some of them are falling for it ('Does the PC brigade expect me to have a certain number of black friends etc')

http://www.dailymail....inated-meet-race.html

I saw this programme last night and the chemistry between Miriam Margolyes and Will.I.Am made for hilarious telly...so who is the Daily Mail attacking in this report?

no idea, but it isn't me. I like her, she is a very good actress, don't much care for him, neither his music or his appearance carrying the Olympic Torch.
So a middle aged actress wants to meet a black man. Where is the news there?
you sure she wasn't being some what tongue in cheek, seeing as how she has had a long career in films, so would presumably have come across a cross section of society.
It's the weekend, Chill, why in your opinion does it have to be attacking anyone?
almost as good as Lenny Henry saying at the Jubilee concert, "how many black people here, oh three, let's have a fight. A jest one assumes.
I notice that they didn't mention that she was being dodgy footwear. :-)
I thought Miriam and Will were brilliant, and very natural.
it's a non story, as you said.
I have always thought Willie boy was a complete knob but the pairing made for good tv and there was nothing offensive about it at all. The strange haired Cheryl Cole mentor even appeared to be enjoying himself and he did quite a good Michael Jackson impression.
Fabulous programme and great rapport, she actually said that she did not meet many Black people outside of show business, seeing the show as more of a social occasion.

Superb TV.
Stunned? Certainly not as stunned as he looked when she said she was a lesbian. Seemed a perfectly natural, and genuine, remark. Outside show business, I don't suppose she does know any black people. Her asking whether he knew any Jews was along the same lines; black rappers may not meet any Jews outside show business. And we all know how mischievous she is.
But the Daily Mail loves anything with race in it, as does its readership , if AB is anything to go by.
Fred, doubt that it will make anyone who reads the mail make something out of it. I'm Sure Ms Margolies has met other black people, after all she has worked in the business a long time, and it's not short of black actors and actresses.

I don't really see any stirring in the report, or anyone being 'attacked'.
It seems quite positive about the whole thing.
I agree with Ludwig.
It seems that this is just another chance for some to go Daily Mail baiting.

This story is also reported in other papers.

But yes when I first saw it I thought this is going to get some tongues wagging, you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife when Miriam made the remark about black people.

I also though that some would have made a comment on Graham's skit at the Gypsies (see video).

Ahhh - but what you don't know is that the Mail have completely altered its headline, and some key points in the story. When I first read it, the headline was something along the lines of 'Wiil.I.Am stunned by TV race gaffe.

Anyone who had read the story before they changed it would be left with the impression that Will.I..Am was offended, and most certainly wasn't. The Mail had this story out first thing on Saturday morning, and it lead with it. At that time it was the only paper who had the story (I checked by Googling it).

The other papers simply picked up the story later.

The tone of the article suggested that Will.I.Am was shocked and now if you look at the comments on the story, many haven the 'stop being so sensitive about race' and they're saying that because the Mail spun the story like that.

The Sun lied too. He definitely WASN'T left speechless 'for five minutes'.
