Is that bad....lol..?? I thought it ruled...lol

Very disappointed.  When I first heard of Ecclestone's appointment I was encouraged that they had picked an actor with a bit of pedigree, but he has been a big let down in the role.  The stories are rubbish (what was the flatulent pigs episode all about?!) and I don't see it improving with the subsequent appointment of the Casanova actor whose name escapes me at the moment.

Doctor Who used to travel the universe meeting odd creatures in differing landscapes, this one seems stuck in Central London!

as someone who remembers dr who from the mid-70's i reckon its good.the budget is definitely better than before !

this dr who has almost totally been based on earth but then so were jon pertwee's dr who episodes.

hopefully in the future they will expand on settings, moving them farther afield and also bring back more of the cliff-hangers that made the originals so famous !

I think they are really good, and I think Billie Piper is excellent as Rose, so disappointed that she is leaving.
Dr Who is always going to polarise opinion and it was always a very variable series with good and bad stories interweaved. One thing that has happened in this new series, is that the writers have returned to strong plots and ditched the technobabble that characterised the later seasons of the old series. Dr Who, in its early days, was always a drama first and a sci-fi series second. The current story is one of the most disturbing and compelling stories for years and the one about Rose's father was extremely moving. Billy Piper has shown herself, on the whole, to be a capable actress, and Eccleston's performance, given the character's background, is suitably erratic. The majority of stories were always set on Earth, and those that were not were very frequently set amongst explorers and settlers from Earth. It's pretty good.

I quite like it overall, although some episodes are boring. I have cried watching it though, when the dalek went philosophical, crying out "What am I" and then topped itself, and in the episode when Rose's dad got run down. I only admitted to that, cos this site is anon hehe!

I agree with alot of these comments, i also admit i cried when roses farther died :( But as you say, some of the episodes are quite boring and i can watch the first 20 mins then it will just be abit boring and i ent up doing something else. I think Billie Piper fits rose perfect tho her acting can be alittle bit of a let down. I also agree with the setting of this doctor who, it does seem to just be in Central London. Thanks for all the replys on this.

I'm enjoying it, although I don't think it's as "dark" as it was in the 70s - possibly a good thing.  I like CE as the Dr and further to previous doubts, Billie Piper is good as Rose too.

I read in the newspaper either yesterday or today that Billie Piper is now thinking of quitting the show too.

The originals scared me witless. What is it about low-fi that makes it so believable.

ooooh you've got big whoosh bang special effects now. wooa! Scare me more! It looks like it's trying to be a computer game.

And I find it hard not to typecast the actors. Ecclestone is the nutter in the attic in 'Shallow Grave' and Billie Piper is Ginger's ex.

Its been better than i thought it would be coz they have a few pounds to spend on effects this time but Tom Baker is still the king!
I'm enjoying the series as a whole, but am really fed up with the inane grinning of christopher ecclestone every 5 seconds it seems!

Lol, I love Christopher Ecclestone, He just fits the part of the doctor perfect, and i love his cheeky smile :P
I'm really enjoying it and I never thought I would but was addicted from the start... mind you it does help that Mr Eccleston is very easy on the eye ..........

I'm loving it! What you've got to do is take it with a pinch of salt. Think a lot of it is meant to be tongue in cheek.

At least theres not loads of tin foil and cardboard being used to make the sets.

Keep it up!

I liked the series initially - but it started to leave me cold and bored.  I agree that parts of the show can be brill but you have to sit through the other bit first.  I heard that Billie Piper was leaving too now and Lenny Henry made a gag about it on his comedy show the other night and said all it needs is the Daleks to leave and they'll e no cast left
