We were notified in advance that the gas board were doing some work in the street that would cause "minimal disruption to residents." I got up this morning to find they've dug up the road at the end of our drive and we can't get our cars out. The blighters have also cut the gas off for the day so my plans to bake youngest Junior Overall's birthday cake have been scuppered. Grrrrr.

I'd be stressing the absolute need to get my car out to go to a hospital appointment .... (or applying the marigolds to somewhere appropriate)
Gas board? Just what century are you in, Mrs.O?
Or, as the Chinese say, may they live in interesting times.

My apologies ginge.....Northern Gas Networks
Mrs Overload............. 'ang around. In my experience, eventually someone in a silly plastic hat and a nylon shirt will turn up in a small van, to "supervise".
Tell him you weren't warned, and you need a lift to the shops :o)

Monsieur le Airing Cupboard Porn Finder - I met the supervisor yesterday. He has chronic B.O. and I'm not that desperate for the shops!
Surely they aren't allowed to block your entrance? That's illegal I'm sure - ring your local council ....

Cheeky devil MrsLeeG....just how old do ya think I am?????? lol
I did not mind the Gas people coming to do work in the road. It has to be done.
About a month ago they turned up 2 days early and did about an hours work leaving my drive blocked and 3 of the neighbours drives
Fortunately I have a second drive and a big parking area so I was able to use that and allow my neighbours to use it.
I could not get in the garage however and the road was a total mess.

That brings back funny memories! When Diamond Cable were around many moons ago replacing all the cables in the streets, my husband and I were astonished to hear a "heated discussion" (to put it mildly!) between the DC engineer and a BT workman both looking down the enormous trench one had dug right at the bottom of our drive! Both were blaming each other for cutting through a cable (one said wasn't buried deep enough, the other said "you should have taken more care!" ) They had the cheek to come to my door and ask if I would be a witness that the cable was damaged, while the BT chap nipped back to his van to fetch a camera for evidence!! You can imagine what I said !!!!! After a few choice words, I yelled that they were like two small children, stop shouting at each other wasting time, to get on with the work immediately and fill the hole back in, as it was impeding access to our property. They stared at me for a moment (stunned I think!) then meekly repaired the cable, filled in the hole, and sped off quickly!!............... It felt good I can tell you haha !!!!!!
