Alan Sugars famous line "I don't like schmoozers" (not sure if spelt correctly?)


Its a funny word but what is its true meaning?

from a Yiddish word for conversing, with overtones as andy hughes says of making yourself known, making useful contacts.
The word really means "someone good at the art of conversation" as in both answers above.  But in modern terms and coloquially and quite possibly by Alan Sugar it refers to someone who will say anything to get what they want and is very likely to be a bum-licker.

Although schmoozing does not necessarily ALWAYS mean brown-nosing.  It can refer to "working the room" or making conversation (as referred to above) with people who are important to them professionally rather than personally.  It can mean a lot of "Mwah mwah daahling" air-kissing!

 

I think the others are right though - Alan Sugar was referring to brown-nosing. 

I'm taking saccharine from now on.
