Where has 'Fringe' gone?

Seems to have disappeared from my planner and I don't recall any announcement about a break.

Not on my planner either, it seems to be taking a break evey other week, it's getting on my nerves. It's hard enough to keep up with as it is.

It's taking a break in America. Seven episodes have aired, with episode eight being on 13th January 2012.

This is a consequence of the relatively recent occurence of satellite TV channels broadcasting US shows within a week or two of them being aired in the US.

In the good old days British TV companies would tend to buy a complete series from the US, perhaps months or years after being shown there, and so could schedule a complete week-by-week run of the entire series. Now we are seeing more cases of the series being "bought" before the episodes have even been filmed.

The US TV audience is traditionally more accustomed to having mid-season breaks and interruptions due to major sporting events etc.

All the breaks annoy me, Vampire Diaries is finishing this week until after the Christmas break. I lost the plot with Flashforward after it disappeared for a break.

Flash Forward was cancelled after the first season.

The other problem with the uk showing tv series so close to the US is that the shows can be cancelled mid season. You're happly watching your favourite show then never see it again.

In the past the series probably wouldn't have been bought if we had known there was not to be a second season or that is was cancelled after 7 episodes.

Used to love Fringe but ep1 of this season didn't draw me back in. Maybe I'll give it another crack.
