I watched EastEnders from its start until about 6 years ago when it all got too ridiculous for words.
I suspect that if I watch an episode now, I would be truly lost........I'm surprised that someone who has continued to watch the show on a regular basis has found themselves similarly confused.
I've stopped watching it for short periods over the years. I find it very easy to get back into....
I used to watch it until I realised how over the top the story lines were getting. I don't watch TV at all now unless House is on.
I have occasionally caught an episode of eastenders despite not watching it regularly for at least 5 years, I actually found it quite easy to get back into, I think that is why they have lasted so long, people drift away then drift back into it seamlessly.
I used to watch it, occasionally, many years ago when Dirty Den, Wicksy and Pete and Kath were in it, but just lost interest in it as the storylines became more and more ridiculous........not really into soaps at all, but police/gangster dramas like NYPD Blue, The Shield, Prison Break, The Wire and The Soprano's are right up my street. :0)
For a while, yogi, EastEnders resembles *all* of the above........it was one of the reasons I stopped watching.

LOL...JTH :0)

You're not wrong there, my lovely........maybe it was the demise of Barry that changed it forever.
I think Eastenders started to go downhill after Reg Cox was murdered.
